Brambley Earns ASHRAE Honor
International society cites exceptional contributions
The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) has selected Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s (PNNL’s) Michael Brambley to receive the organization’s Exceptional Service Award. The award was announced at ASHRAE’s 2022 Annual Conference on June 25 in Toronto.
The honor recognizes members who have served the society “faithfully and with exemplary effort,” in excess of that required for ASHRAE’s Distinguished Service Award, which the honoree must have previously received. Exceptional Service Award recipients also must be full-grade ASHRAE members for a minimum of 10 years.
Brambley was nominated for the honor by an ASHRAE colleague and evaluated in categories including society, project, and technical committee service, conference involvement, and ASHRAE-related publications and presentations.
“I’m honored to be recognized by ASHRAE with the Exceptional Service Award,” Brambley said. “ASHRAE has established itself as a leading international organization dedicated to sustainability in the built environment. I share this dedication and am proud to be a contributing member.”
In his more than two decades at PNNL, Brambley’s efforts have focused on innovative solutions to improve the operating efficiency of buildings and other energy systems. In recent years, he led the development of the award-winning Retro-Commissioning Sensor Suitcase, a technology that identifies energy-efficiency improvements in smaller commercial buildings. He also guided the creation of a connected homes solution that makes existing home appliances, such as electric water heaters and air conditioners, smart and capable of communicating with the power grid.
ASHRAE is an international society with more than 50,000 members that seeks to advance the arts and sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration to serve humanity and promote a sustainable world. ASHRAE’s efforts focus on building systems, energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and sustainability within the industry.
