Sarah Frazar, a group leader in the National Security Directorate at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), was recently elected chair of the Board of Trustees for the World Affairs Council of Seattle. 

“It is an honor to expand my role with the council and join the board in growing our organization in terms of numbers, diversity, and impact,” Frazar said.

Founded in 1951, the council focuses on advancing global understanding and cultivating enduring relationships within the local community and with the rest of the world, one conversation at a time. The World Affairs Council of Seattle is closely affiliated with the nationwide, non-partisan World Affairs Councils of America.

Frazar joined the board in 2020 and was nominated to the role of vice chair in 2022. In that role, she helped coordinate a series of panels featuring topics of interest to the organization, including space, disinformation, and technology governance. The panels highlighted the dynamic relationship between science, technology, and policy.

“As we have seen in recent years, the issues impacting the world can directly impact us here at home. We have a vested interest in learning more about these issues and the different ways we can come together to address them,” Frazar said. “The council gives us a unique opportunity to engage with world leaders, aspiring entrepreneurs, educators, and informed citizens to learn about their perspectives on the future. It is an exciting time to be part of and help lead this impressive organization.”
