John VerWey Appointed to National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Committee
PNNL’s global security advisor is honored by appointment to a committee assembled by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
John VerWey, an advisor for Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), recently received an appointment to a committee assembled by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. The committee, Global Microelectronics: Models for the Department of Defense in Semiconductor Public-Private Partnerships, focuses on identifying and assessing public-private partnership models that can enable access for semiconductor production in the United States.
“I am honored by my selection to serve on this National Academies committee. I look forward to working with the other members of this study to identify, explore, and assess models that enable assured access to produce semiconductors in the U.S.,” said VerWey, who is also a non-resident fellow at Georgetown University’s Center for Security and Emerging Technology and the National Bureau of Asian Research.
The committee is responsible for producing a consensus report that addresses questions surrounding the competitive position of the United States in the global semiconductor ecosystem and the unique challenges faced in the industry. The committee is purposefully made up of members with diverse experiences and expertise to accomplish such goals. VerWey’s extensive research on the semiconductor industry has been published by the United States International Trade Commission, the Journal of Commerce and Economics, IEEE-Computer, and others.
Appointments to National Academies committees represent recognition as an outstanding expert in a field.
