Wendy Shaw Elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry
Shaw recognized for accomplishments in chemistry
Wendy Shaw, the Chief Science and Technology Officer of the Physical and Computational Sciences Directorate at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). Achieving the rank of Fellow recognizes leadership across the chemical sciences.
The RSC is a United Kingdom-based organization, granted a Royal Charter by Queen Victoria in 1848. Throughout its history, the RSC has maintained its purpose for “the general advancement of Chemical Science.” With a current membership of approximately 54,000, the RSC publishes numerous peer-reviewed journals, hosts conferences and other events, and provides a rich network for scientists and students across the globe.
To be elected an RSC Fellow, a nominee must have held a senior position for a minimum of 5 years and made “an impact in any field of the chemical sciences.” The designation is reserved for those with influence in the chemistry community and represents the most senior membership level in the RSC.
“I’m excited to deepen my involvement with the RSC,” said Shaw. “The Fellow designation is an honor to receive.”
Shaw joined PNNL in 1994, working as a research scientist. Her research takes inspiration from nature to develop and understand new catalysts and materials. In addition to her work as a researcher, Shaw assumed her first major management role as the Associate Division Director for Catalysis Science in 2014. She then served as the Division Director for the Physical Sciences Division for 5 years. In her current role as Chief Science and Technology Officer, Shaw helps guide and develop research strategy for the Physical and Computational Sciences Directorate at PNNL. Some of her recent research focuses on identifying the fundamental science challenges remaining to close the carbon cycle and reach net zero carbon emissions. Shaw is currently on the editorial advisory board of Chemical Society Reviews, an RSC journal.
