Biography

Tom loves discovering why PNNL scientists do what they do, then telling the world. He has been covering science full time for more than 35 years and starts most interviews with simple questions such as, "What are you doing?" and "Why?" He works closely with news reporters from around the globe to get them the information they need to put PNNL scientists and their work in the spotlight. "Proteogenomics," "redox flow batteries," "albedo" -- those should all be translated as "researchers laboring away in their laboratories for your benefit and the benefit of all humankind." Every scientist has a story to tell, and a story worth listening to. It's worth our patience and time to hear, and tell, their stories. Tom has been a member of the National Association of Science Writers for more than 25 years; altogether he has been part of the journalism and PR world since the Carter Administration. Currently he covers biology, energy storage and national security. Learn more from Tom's LinkedIn profile.
