Coastal Sciences Division
Research Areas
The Coastal Sciences Division delivers integrative science, modeling, analytical tools, and expertise to uncover ocean-based solutions in the face of a changing climate. Our researchers develop tools and make discoveries for harnessing sustainable energy from coastal environments, including renewable power from marine energy and offshore wind, as well as the development of biofuels from algae. We also focus on ways to detect and prevent threats that could affect coastlines, in part by turning environmental data into actionable intelligence. Our division supports coastal resilience with capabilities in environmental monitoring, marine carbon dioxide removal, ecosystem restoration, ultratrace detection, Earth system science and modeling, biogeochemical science, biotechnology, maritime security, community-engaged research, and beyond.
